What does everybody do for childcare? During the day? At night?

My kids go to preschool now. Jessie is in kindregarten 5 days a week until 2pm. JC is home Tuesdays and Thursdays goes half days the other 3. I am home with him on Thursdays, Jeff (Dh) is home with him Tuesdays. We have never had daycare or a babysitter. We did baby swaps when they were little. ( I worked around my husbands school/work schedule). I am fortuante that a lot of my job can be donefrom home. We are nuts. We like time with our kids and barely trust anyone else with them. With no family in the area it is just us.

The twins attend a daycare center at our local community college. Even though the teacher assistants are mainly students in early education, I have been amazed at the minimal turnover rate in the 1.5 years we have been going there.

The police academy for Hunterdon and Somerset Counties also reside on the campus and we have regular visits from the cadets. This morning a big moose of a cadet who can barely fit one butt cheek on one of those kiddie chairs read to the kids at 8am! Jeez, the twins were just settling down for breakfast!

Sadly, daycare and commuting costs (gas and driving 1.25 hours each way) is costing more that what I am bringing into the household and currently there are no opportunities w/in the company at the moment that will allow me to work from home from time. I've had to put out notice with the daycare center yesterday.

The thought of being cooped up with 2 percocious toddlers in a small river town w/o much to do is freaking me out. Sad

Lisa, I thought your kids were in a Waldorph school, or was that somebody else?

They are, so to speak. Only able to go to the Parent/Child class once a week. The daycare center is mainstream.

When they turn 36 months (or thereabouts, I don't have the paperwork in front of me) the twins will be in a transitional parent/child program that will gradually turn into 1/2 day kindergarten 3x a week. Knowing my kids, they are more than happy to forego mommy and do their own thing for 4 hours easily.

I can hardly wait.

It's me, mostly 24/7, except for Saturdays when I volunteer at a children's museum. I want to get Chris into a Montessori school when he's 3, but that would depend on him getting a scholarship or us winning the lottery! LOL

I have a friend who made a deal with her kids Montessori school, she worked in the office while they were in school and got free tuition! Something to think about...

Hunter goes to school. Ethan goes to a day care center. Ethan will be going somewhere else next school year, though...just not sure where yet.
