I looked at all the hobbies and saw "painting" was missing. Any painters on the board at all??
I took up painting this last spring on a whim. I ordered some off of Craig's list and I thought "wow how cool if I could try and do that." So I took a beginning art class and was hooked and bought around 400+ in supplies...LOL! I do watercolor and acrylic mainly and I am not the greatest, but it's really rewarding to see something on your wall that "you" have done!!
Plus, it's something Lauren and I can do together, except I get interuppted like a billion zillion times..."mommy, how do I make purple again? Mommy is do blue and yellow make green?" I finally tell her she needs to figure it out and let mommy paint (I know, I am so mean)
Ever since she saw me mixing colors, this is her big thing to get a piece of paper and make different colors...LOL! If she colors at a resteraunt she's always trying to make various colors...hehe! |

I never thought I did either. I have never been good at drawing at all...but painting is different from drawing, although good to improve the "drawing" skills.
There are a lot of books and tips as well on how to improve these skills. But I never thought I was artistic at all when it came to drawing, painting, etc. I have always been musically inclined and used to write a lot, but painting...never crossed my mind.
But I was coming out of "another" crappy relationship, and wanted to do something to fill my time, realize I "could" be alone, etc. It helped a lot. I don't think I am that good...but it's fun :-)

I took a water color class a few years ago when we were in Germany. It was taught by a fairly famous German painter (famous in Germany, anyway, I'd never heard of her and can't for the life of me remember her name). I had a great time and produced a few fairly nice paintings (that are now stashed away in a folder somewhere in the attic). One day I'd like to take it up again, but I'm just too busy right now.
Any chance you could take some digital pics of your work and post them for us? I'd love to see it! |

Sure I can do that...but they are very "amateur".
Watercolor is probably my favorite. I tend to use watercolor and acrylic (not together although I think they can be used together) the most. The other mediums are oil, douche and tempera, but I haven't experimented a lot w/those mediums. |

Ive been painting for 5 years now. Acrylics, only because I like to have things dry fast and I like the easy clean up. IM LAZY. I paint Glass ware and make hand painted greeting cards. I was on our city's monthly art tour, but I took this year off because I am soo behind. No new work and what not. I had to deal with ocular cancer this past summer and it tapped my motivation.
How do you stay motivated?
Does anyone have photos of their work? |

I am an "artist" but rarely have time to do art. I had formal art training my whole childhood and was an art teacher for a while. This week I started teaching my daughter who is 5. We are going to do drawing before painting though. We started with a still life drawing and worked a little on form, texture and shading. After we have worked our way to some proficeincy on these skills I will work on painting with her too.
Up to now we only had worked on computer drawing and letting her do her own thing with a "how to draw book". She also did painting, chalk, crayons, markers, play dough, clay, etc. I do have a portfolio of her old computer drawings. (She uses MS Paint). I have not added to her portfolio in a long time but here is a link to her old computer artwork from when she was 3 and 4. I think she is great. Her new one's are much more sophisticated but I will always like these (nostalgia). I will post her new one's when I get a chance.

I just took up painting last summer. I am so amatuer...LOL! I took a class that intoduced a lot of different mediums. I like watercolor and pastel the best. I think it's because they blend nicely and there's more room for error.
I am not a neat artist at all and my drawing skills suck, suck, suck......
I wish I had time to build it up. It's very relaxing and therapeutic and I would like to take more classes. I am lucky if I paint once a month. I need to upload some photos on shutterfly, but again, I haven't even been painting a whole year, so ya know, I am so not a professional by any means and it's a hobby only. |
