My son is almost 10.5 months old and still has no interest in holding a bottle and you can forget the sippy cup.

The daycare center told me that me pretty much does nothing with his hands. Even trying to get him to play with paint and do a handprint they have to unclutch him. Sure he holds toys to chomp on, but that is it?

Please tell me that 'this too shall pass...'

His twin sister holds a bottle to feed herself, which I must admit is a great help...until she starts banging her head with it, but that is another story.

Do you think it a behavior issue or a developmental issue?

I have read something about the "clutching" issue but I can't remember where or what it said, helpful huh? I would think that he should probably be grabbing things and letting go, at least during play at this point. I would ask his dr what s/he thinks. If there is some kind of developmental or physical issue, the earlier you find it and start therapy the better! (Not trying to scare you though!) Cool

Good question. I don't know what to make of it.

My son had always been somewhat of a clingy baby and congnitively speaking he has always been behind his sister by about 3 weeks. However, physically speaking he is behind a bit compare to other babies (like still not wanting to grab things to try and stand up or go from a lying position to a standing position). However he just starting walking with assistance. His sister cannot crawl or climb, but uses her hands very deftly, though not using her pincers yet. We suspect that in a matter of days this will change.

I guess if he does not show interest in holding the bottle by 11 months or using his pincers by then, I'll have to call the doc.
