Both of my boys have been three. Joshua is going to be 4 July 1st and he just really completely got it. he started sleeping in big boy undies this week. He really resisted it in the beginning, too. I did not do pullups with him for that reason. When he finally showed even a little bit that he could and would do it, I put him in underwear.

Personally, I do not care at all if my kids train before 3. It's just a PITA to have to find the freakin bathroom everywhere you go and deal with all that. Diapers are so much easier in that respect.

Right now, Somerset has to be in Pullups for preschool and she apparently will use the bathroom there at least some of the time, but she won't do it at home unless she just wants to for the hell of it.

He's almost 3 years & 3 months.

The thing that is killing me is that this summer he was totally trained for several weeks! He would even wear undies at nap time and be dry (and he takes 3 hr naps).

He just totally regressed when Owen started walking. For some reason that milestone had a huge impact on Ethan -- the regression with the pottying was just one of many things that occurred then.

Anyway. I know he *can* do it, because he's done it before! He just won't. I do not want to get into a power struggle, and I'm trying to keep the whole thing light. I just told him that he wasn't going to wear a diaper anymore. He didn't complain. But he's NOT going to the bathroom on his own at all. He's just peeing in his undies. Mad A few times I saw him shifting uncomfortably while playing so I ushered him into the potty before he had another accident, but this is ridiculous. I never had to do this last summer!

Ughhhhh.

He can't start preschool in diapers. And he's just about outgrown diapers all together. The size 6's are so tight across his hips. He HAS to move on!

Do you have flooring or carpet?

I succesfully trained Nate by doing lots of naked time. For him PT was actually fun because he was obsessed with pissing and shitting. Laughing I'm sure I'll get what I deserve with Aaron from having it so easy with Nate. Aaron definitely has the stubborn genes.

I wonder if you tried "naked" time, with lots of positive reinforcement for him pottying on his own. WIth Nate, having undies on would make him forget to go potty because he thought he had a diaper on. With no dipe, he knew there was nothing to catch his pee and he would remember to go. It got kind of annoying after he was trained though, since he was so loving being naked all the time. BUt that has long passed.

mostly carpet. And if he pees naked he totally doesn't care, he just says, "whoops, sorry mom" and continues on his way. Rolling Eyes But with undies he's really uncomfortable and then goes to the bathroom to take them off. That's why I'm having him in those. And plus, much less mess to clean up!

With Joey I also did tons of naked time and between 2.5-3 he was doing great going potty if he was naked. Not so good with poop, though.

The week he turned 3, I told him there were no more diapers, that he was going to wear big boy undies. He had to be pt'd for pre-school this past Sept and I planned on doing undies for 2 straight weeks no matter what. If he hadn't gotten it at that point, I'd stop for 2 weeks and then try again. He did great. Sometimes he'd start to pee a little in his undies before he realized and then he'd run to the bathroom. It also took forever and many trips to get the poop thing down. I think he felt it in his belly way before he had to actually poop. But he started doing better after a couple weeks.

Then right before pre-school started out of nowhere he started pooping his pants. He's been off and on with the poop issues since. One day he goes right on the potty, the next he'll poop his pants. It's very frustrating. I also have to go in and change him when he does it at pre-school, as they have no changing facilities. Sad

I'm not really sure what you can do except lots of rewards and encouragement. Good luck! Smile

They were both 4 by the time they were totally trained. Katie was actually closer to 5. But, as we're learning, she has voiding issues, poor thing, which is probably why it was harder for her to learn.

I know lots of kids who had passed their 4th birthday before totally getting it and doing it all the time without accidents.
