Under Jewish law, a mohel -- someone who performs circumcisions -- draws blood from the circumcision wound. Most mohels do it by hand, but Fischer uses a rare practice where he uses his mouth.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how the FUCK this is legal??????

I dunno, but I heard about that before, that drawing with the mouth was an ancient practice. Thank gawd for allowing religion to "grow with the times" so we don't have to live with ancient practices like this! Now off to read the article...

Hopefully circ'ing won't even be the norm for Jews in future years.

okay, just read the article. wow. I agree, how can that be legal! And considering lots of family/friends are usually present at a bris, how can they just stand by while mohel puts his mouth where it does not belong?

You know what? I think those parents should be held accountable for allowing that to happen. I think they should be charged with manslaughter -- seriously. I mean, this is such an avoidable situation.

Oh my that's just terrible! I thought herpes can be transmitted from mother to infant during delivery but that it's not fatal and at worst could cause blindness? I'm wondering if there's more to the story?
