I found out today a woman who lives in my neighborhood who I've chatted with very briefly on several occassions lost her 3 year old a few months ago. Apparently her child had a heart defect no one knew about. I'd like to be of some help if it's appropriate. What do you guys think? Is it appropriate? What would help?

I might send a card saying something like "I just heard about your son/daughter, I am so sorry and please let me know if I can ever help you out somehow."
That's all I can think of. Damn, that is sad. Does she have other kids?
