In light of some confusion and concerns; brought up on a blog post today...specifically, this one...:
http://blog.imperfectparent.com/2008/04/30/play-time/
I wanted to make sure all the new posters and readers are aware of what this site is and what we're about. I have a feeling that our mission statement and site dynamics and environment has been overlooked or misunderstood by some.
Please read the "About Us" page to get a feel for the history of our site:
http://www.imperfectparent.com/about.php
Furthermore, this site celebrates the mainstream just as much as it pushes its limits. We can be irreverent, unorthodox, provocative and hopefully thought inspiring and even offensive on occassion.
This site was created as an ALTERNATIVE to traditional, homogenized, censor-laden parenting sites. If you are one that is easily and deeply offended by curse words, political incorrectness, controversial issues, hot topics and/or sex, then this is probably not the right site for you.
I want everybody to enjoy the loose environment here and add to the discussions as most of you have done so well, but I cannot change who or what we are in order to conform to those who may be offended by some of the language and ideas presented here.
A little amount of time on our home page reveals a lot about us and I want everybody to be comfortable, but I also cannot change the identity that gave us the passion and desire to start this site to begin with. I am very proud of The Imperfect Parent, with all it's flaws, imperfections, emotions, raw spirit and social variances. I wouldn't change a thing, but understand that it isn't for everyone. It was never meant to be. That was and is the whole point of this site. It was never meant to be a one-size-fits all site. A plethora of those sites already exist and this site was created to offer something outside of that, which I happen to find refreshing. (But that's just me.) |

Well said. I think it would be unreasonable to expect any site to cater solely to one distinct audience. Variation is the spice of life, and without varying opinions and expressions what would be the point of being here. I always thought that's what forums were about.
Thanks Jessica, for highlighting this for everyone. |

| I love this place to and no I don't think you should cater to just one side, I'm just asking why do we have to cater to friend? no one else on here chose to use foul talk, but she left and found out it is permissable, so now we have to endure more ,All I'm saying is everyone did fine with out it ,Even she did not talk like that until today , she made a remark to Rita about bad talk, called it iky, and the IP Staff told her thats the way they talk over there, So she used the same until Jennifer called her on it and thats when she changed her mind (again),so if that had been going on here all along then I would'nt have ever said anyting about it, I just was shocked thats all, Since I'm new I only wanted to know, I do not use foul talk, and if other ppl do so be it, I had just never seen it with these girls before, Thank You Jessica for your patience with me. |

Darlene,
It's the 5th amendment. This blog is open for that and so let it go. It'll die down because if only one or two people are doing it, no one pays attention. The blogs on here are the best I've ever seen. We can speak our minds, have friends who we don't always agree with but we carry on. We can have a subject we continue with or as this forum allows, we can go off topic and have other discussions or just have fun. Stay out of the fray. Besides, once in awhile, a good "F" word is the only thing that will suffice. |
