| I'm wondering if they're all okay. They're in Memphis, right? Anyone heard from her? |

Well, she posted in this thread a few times yesterday, so I'm assuming her and her family are OK...
ETA: You're inquiring because of the tornadoes, right? Or is something else going on down there now? |

| Yes, I was inquiring because of the tornado. I did not see that she had posted on the other thread, so I'm guessing all is well. Thanks! |

Hey! Yes, we're fine. Thanks for worrying about us! The tornadoes touched down in some outlying suburban areas but missed us in midtown. The area where I grew up (Hickory Hill, which has since become BKA Hickory Hood) got hit the hardest. The mall where I hung out as a teenager was partially destroyed.
It was pretty scary and unusual because the majority of tornadoes that come this way come from ARkansas, and seem to jump over us after crossing the river (everyone claims the bluff protects us somehow but I'm not sure that's the actual reason), but this time they came from a different direction. Schools closed mid-day so everyone could get home before it hit, which was much better than two years ago when they hemmed and hawed and let us out at precisely the moment that it hit.
The weird thing was that I had gone off campus to my alma mater, Rhodes College, on an invitation to speak to a small education calss, and had no idea any of this was going on. I checked my phone afterwards for the time and saw that Genevieve's Montessori had called, dh had called, and the husband of my friend who works on campus and with whom I was eating lunch had called looking for her to get their kids. And then when I got there to get GK, she had just thrown up! So one of us would have had to come get her anyway. We've been home for two days waiting for the stomach bug to pass. |
