| I'm just curious. Do you vote for a candidate based on their platform, their party or on their race/sex? I know a lot of people who just pull the all Democrat or all Republican lever when they vote and others who will vote for someone simply because of their race or because they are a man or a woman. How do you decide? |

I vote for the person who is most aligned with my goals for the future. I have and will vote for either party, but usually I lean towards one side (as most people do) because it's a better fit with my point of view.
The next election will be the first in a while where I am still undecided as to which party I will vote for, although I live in a state where my vote matters very little because it's such a blue state. |

My parents were Republican/Conservative when I was growing up, and so I pretty much stick to those ideas/values. However, I DO NOT blanket-vote for an etire party. It killed me to vote for Gore and Lieberman a few years ago, but that's how much I hated the idea of another Bush in office.
Our primary elections over here piss me off royally. This is the vote just to see who gets on the November ballotts, and they make you pick your party first, then you can only choose people in that party. Anyone you choose out of your selected party will not count. I HATE Blanket-Party voting!!!!! There's always a crook (or 2, 3, 4) mixed in with ANY party. |

I like to think I vote for the person, but honestly I can't imagine the cold day in hell it would be when I would vote for a Republican. Now, the upcoming primaries are going to be interesting, because as a Democrat, I feel like we need to pick a winner, period. So I find myself pondering which candidate is less likely to get our ass handed to us, and not focusing so much on other aspects of each candidate. I feel torn because I love Hillary, but I don't see how she could win. I think Obama is interesting but green (in terms of experience, not environmental), and I doubt the likelihood of an American president whose middle name is Hussein. Honestly I think Edwards has the best chance to win it, and he's who I'll likely vote for in the primaries, even though I'm not sure about what he stands for. I do like that he comes from a very working-class background. Even though he has money now, he's not an upper-class WASP whose family came over on the Mayflower and who has never dealt with life in the under-six-figures set.

That's me, too.
Last election, the DFL chose Kerry as their runner before the we could vote in the primaries in MN, so I didn't get to vote for my choice--Howard Dean.
I do like Edwards. I like him a lot, and I like his wife. If I get a chance to vote in the primaries, it will be for him. My second choice would be Obama. Third, Hillary, because I don't think she can win either. |

I can see why they would think she wouldn't win. She is ahead in many polls, but those are democratic polls and there are PLENTY of people who just aboslutely hate her and would likely vote for a repblican just to keep her out of office. On the Today show this morning, Bill was on and Matt showed him some poll results and Hillary was on top of all of them EXCEPT the likability poll, where she came in dead last. I think if she were the democratic candidate, almost any republican could beat her.

This made me laugh, I have no idea why.
I have no idea how I'll vote. I don't really like any of the candidates, dem or rep. Sigh. I'd just like someone I could get behind, but they're all just so, meh. Too bad Michelle Obama isn't running. I think I'd vote for her. |

I will NEVER vote for Hillary. I'd rather see Nancy Grace as President than her. She's fake, crooked, and anything that appears 'nice' that she does, always has political (vot for me) motivations.
Pixie, I know you and I don't always agree, but I did like Howard Dean.
There was talk a few years ago about Elizabeth Dole running, but that fizzled out. If any woman were to be the 'first' President, I'd back her. But I would never vote for a woman soley based on the "Oh-my-gosh!-History-in-the-making.-The-FIRST-woman-President-ever!" mentality. |

Nancy Grace. LOL!!!
...but don't kid yourself, they're ALL crooked. Out of all the dems, I actually like Hillary the best (believe it or not). If I voted for a dem, it would probably be her. |

| Exactly. She can't win because anyone who was a Republican during the Clinton (GOLDEN) era hated the shit out of Hillary and they will never vote for her, even if they might otherwise vote Dem at this point. I can't understand why people hated the Clinton's so passionately, but I can certainly remember that they did. And as much as I'd love to go back to the good ol' Clinton days, it ain't gonna happen in '08. |
