I'm curious, who believes in evolution and why or why not?

I do...I think it's just the math nerd in me that thinks it's a more logical and scientific view of the world.

Having said that, I think sometimes about the "spark" that got everything started and believe that there is a creator out there somewhere who got the spark going. That it just could all be random--that's just too overwhelming for me.

And just for the record, I don't go to church and almost never have.

Speaking of evolution, has anyone heard the latest about RNA? We've always heard in school that DNA was the shit and RNA was just like a helper, but recent research is proving that RNA is much more important that scientists have previously realized and may prove to be more important than DNA. It would explain some of the holes in evolution theory as well. I'm not explaining it well at all...I'm a math person and not a chemist! But it sounds interesting.

I do. I just can't buy creationism. Where are the dinosaurs, mamoths, neandertals, pangea, and ice age in all that?
Of course, I also believe in reincarnation, so, I could just be nuts.

I do. I also believe the Earth is round rather than flat. Wink

Do I think scientists have the whole thing figured out? No. I think they could be wrong about a lot of things, as has historically been the case. But I also can't believe in any kind of creator, or fathom how anyone can, really. I have turns of believing in different types of energy being in play, for lack of a better way of saying it, but at no time do I ever feel that a god with a personality or an intelligent entity of any kind could possibly exist, now or ever.

Ooh, ooh, me too! This is exactly how I feel. Energy. I'm all about the energy.

I do believe in evolution. I wouldn't debate it with someone because I don't feel that strongly about it but if I had to guess I would say that we are here mostly through evolution.

Yeah, I believe in a form of evolution, not necessarily on the strict Darwin track though.

I never know how to answer this question. I wouldn't say that I 'believe' in gravity, or 'believe' in the computer sitting in front of me. I accept the current paradigm of scientific thought with regard to evolution, but the word belief, to me, implies a sort of unwavering faith that I don't generally associate with science. I suppose I could say that I do have faith in the scientific method to work as it was intended, meaning that I certainly wouldn't be surprised if evolutionary theory was one day modified or discarded in favor of a more compelling model.
