Wow, wow, WOW!!!!! Your stuff is GORGEOUS! The green dress actually made me gasp (also it looks to be about my size and I look smashing in green ).
The red and black is awesome. I designed the costumes for A Streetcar Named Desire for my senior thesis in college (it was the final production of my senior year) and the red dress looks very similar to a lot of the stuff we built for the show (with the exception of the cool modern sleeves). After spending 4 months researching historial clothing, I was all kinds of crazy for dresses cut on the bias. It is not easy to do with a pattern like that either (we built 35 patterned dresses on the bias, so believe me I KNOW), so extra kudos on that one.
I looked at the pics before reading your post and wondered if the suit was made out of burlap and then you wrote that it is. That is just cool! I love the darker detailing on the sleeves, collar and hem.
What kind of fabric was the purple/black coat made out of? Is it a leopard pattern (it's hard to tell in the pic)? I'd totally wear that too. Also, it gave me a bit of a Laura feel (the readhaead from the most recent season), and I loved her stuff.
You seem to have a lot of historical notes in your design. The burlap has a touch of Victorian, and the green seems very late 50's/early 60's chic. I love modern stuff with historical touches!
I'm sorry you didn't get on the show! How could you not be what they were looking for? Your stuff is beautiful and from what I could tell from the photos, well constructed. What is wrong with Tim Gunn? I'm afraid he's getting to big for his panties. |

Ah well. What does Tim Gunn know, anyway? Maybe they were looking for specific types for this season and you just don't fit the mold? (as I'm sure you don't fit many molds)
Your clothes are amazing. I just love your aesthetic. I love the suit, especially (I have some shoes that would totally rock with it ). And I bet that coat looked fantastic with your hair. I'm sorry the experience was demoralizing, but I'm so impressed that you actually did it. Thanks for sharing your experience. |

Oh, Sewing Siren. I'm so sorry you didn't make it. Your photos are beautiful. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the yellow burlap suit!!!!! Thank you so much for the detailed blog. I actually felt like I was going along with you as I read it!!! I'm sorry they didn't accept you, though. (and thanks for not pulling that crap like on American Idol. You know, pleading, interrrupting, bawling, and the "you're just jealous" line). I'm sure the rejection must have stung like salt on a wound, but I'm glad you've kept your head up. |

Thanks a lot for responding to the work. I know those designs are kind of "out there", I also had some more commercial work in the photo portfolio and some evening wear in a illustrated portfolio.
Julymom- Thank you so much for your detailed critique. I really respect your opinion. You are right on with your assessments.
Anthro- Are you talking platforms? Cause thats what I'm planning on wearing with the goddamn thing !
Mammax3- Yes, I exited without a fuss. Because I lost my voice it's hard to talk when your stomach is in you ass.But I think I might have been covering my face with my hand . I know I didn't cry while I was still in the room, at least I have that shred of dignity .
Jessica, did you recognize your line about "Tim Burton and Martha Stewart"? Remember way back at Halloween you said that about my work and I said I would use it on my PR application? Tim must have hated it, but the reporter from the NYTimes used it in his story, so there .
Thanks again for the compliments in really means alot. Constructive criticism is okay too . |

Congrads to you SS for trying out for Project Runway! (or is it Top Designer now?)
I'm sorry to hear that Tim Gunn was mean. I will never think the same of him! What a bitch!
I thought your clothes were just beautiful!!! I LOVED the burlap suit and the green dress. You're really talented and I think they lost a good person when they didn't choose you! I think we were all looking forward to seeing you do some of the crazy challenges they give them.
Anyway, good for you for having the balls (or would it be eggs) for trying out! For all of us here, YOU're the Top Designer! |

Sort of. The shoes I have are tooled leather t-strap sandals with a wooden wedge heel, but they do have about a bit of a platform, too.
You'll have to post a picture of you in that suit sometime. And please tell me that you're going to wear it to a PTA meeting or something similar. |
