Hello all.
I am fairly certain that this is the first time I have registered at this forum but to be completely truthfully, I really can't remember. I had an essay published at imperfectparent last March or April and then pretty much vanished.
I am a poker dealer by day and a freelance writer by night, weekend, lunchtime, and every other free minute of my day. Oh yeah....and a mom. I have 2 children; Tyler who is 10 and Nicholas who is 1. (Nope, that wasn't a typo, they are 9 years apart.)
My life became a cluster fuck of events at the beginning of 2006. My "wonderful" husband of 11 years asked me for a divorce. (then continued to live with me for 6 months) At this time I was unemployed, nursing a new baby and was suffering from a serious case of post-partum depression. I pretty much went psychotic, which of course, is what lead me into writing.
When my husband, who we will now refer to as Rob, finally left, my life changed dramatically. I feel like an idiot now for ever begging him to stay and I feel foolish for ever thinking we could ever make it work because in all honesty; on June 11, 2006.....I freakin' hit the lottery!
This month I celebrate 9 months of sobriety. (Not counting the months during pregnancy and nursing. They don't count.) Ever try raising children without the occasional 12 pack. This shit ain't fun sometimes!
I have since dropped his last name (Hall), I have dropped 25 pounds and I have gained every ounce of pride, confidence and dignity that I had ever lost.
Today, life is great. Rob and I are very cooperative with each other and supportive. Our children are adjusting (as best they can...poor things) and we have managed to avoid any unneccessary conflict and manipulation. Don't get me wrong, the dude is still a loser, but he is a great dad and that my friends, is my only concern.
My children bug the shit out of me everyday, which is cool, it gives me something to write about. I wouldn't change it for the world.
I am very lucky, very blessed, very SINGLE and very happy.
Happy to be amoungst the living, breathing imperfect parents. Awesome to know that we are not alone.
Word to your mother!
Robin

Holy crap, where do you people come from???
Best welcoming crew yet!
Anywho....here's my mission:
Let's bring back kick ass 90's slang.
Word to your mother and the ever so popular PSYCH (I have never spelled this word before.....weird. Is this the correct spelling. Apparently spellcheck isn't down with the slang.)
I thought I was going to have to do this as a solo mission, single-handedly bringing it back by keeping it real, but apparently the groupies of imperfectparent can represent. SWEET!
And our kids think we aren't cool...what's up with that!

As long as we don't have to bring back the bad hair with humongous bangs that went along with it, I'm cool.
Have you ever visited the televisionwithoutpity.com boards? They are down with the word. Often tweaked to fit the show i.e. "w'ord" for Stargate SG-1 (don't ask how I know this) and "wordy mcword" for several of the popular shows featuring teens (again, don't ask-I have a lot of free time).
And god I would love to see me some Hammer pants. Can we lobby for those to make a come back? My prom date wore the tux version of those. Awesome. |

Seriously sista! I remember a time in my life when running out of Aqua Net could cause an emotional breakdown like no other. (AAAHHHH, those were the days.)
So, it's a deal.....we'll bring back the lingo and have to rely on the fashionistas in fashion land to save us from the bangs.
Anyone actually have time in the morning to focus on the huge bang? PLEASE!
Peace Out

Welcome Robin! Congrats on 9 months of sobriety. Do you attend meetings daily?[/i]
Hi MainstreamMom,
Thanks for the kudos. The best gift I have ever given my children is my sobriety. Unfortunately I am unable to attend meetings on a daily basis, but I am able to attend on a regular basis.
I have to keep this as a top priority in my life. Alcoholism runs rampant in my family, so it is important to me to keep it real with my son.
Sobriety rules!

Welcome!
You know what's funny about the 90's revival? Have you read Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk? It's kind of a theme in that book, about how each generation refuses to let go of its trends and icons and he ties it into mortality and denial over aging. Which is funny, 'cause it's not really a philsophical sort of book, well, any more than any of his other stuff (like Fight Club).
I know all my stuff is dated back to the 90's. I refuse to let go of it either. It was the best generation |

Big bangs were so 80's, not 90's. The 90's were the best, most beautiful era ever. <sniff>I miss you, Bill!<sniff>
Actually my hair is looking very similar to my n90's do at the moment. Just long and wavy. But now it's not a perm. |

I think we all have a tendency to "hang on" to our youth. But, for what reason? If you really think about it, it wasn't that fun.
Personally I enjoy life more now than I ever have. I feel that the spiritual growth I have achieved by living and learning has made me a much better person who is happpier than ever.
The process of growth sucks sometimes but the end result sure is rewarding.
Now....back to the real stuff.
Can anyone tell me if the New Kids on the Block were a product of the 80's or 90's? This is one group I want to see on a reunion tour! Anyone else down with this? |
