Anyone remember the 'so called' rule of parenting that if you are about to 'explode', 'lose it', call it what you will and need a 'mommy time out' that you put your child in their crib and leave the room for a couple of minutes to catch one's breath?

Last week I had such an incident. Despite all my best efforts to 'redirect' and telling the twins, 'you may not do this or that, we do this or that' I finally got fed up and put them both in their cribs. They started to cry and I said, 'Mommy needs a break' and left the room in a huff. As I pacing my bedroom trying to calm down (serenity NOW!!) I hear the following conversation:

Lloyd: Where's Mommy?
Lydia: Mommy needs a break.
Lloyd: Mommy mad!

Fast forward to last night. Lydia is on the potty in the bathroom. Next to her Lloyd proceeds to try and hang like a monkey on a ceramic towel rack. I snapped, "Lloyd, you may NOT HANG ON THE TOWEL RACK! Towel rack break and Lloyd get hurt!"

Lydia proceeded to yell back, "Mommy, stop yelling at Lloyd!"

Well either way, Lloyd was no longer hanging on the towel rack and proceeded turning on and off the bathroom lights (much more tolerant of this). About 20 minutes or so passed I took Lydia to the changing table to put on a diaper. The rule is that she can wear her 'big girl pants' (pull up) if she either peed or poop. She did neither and was not happy with the current situation.

She pulled her thumb out of her mouth and in a grumpy pout she said, "Lydia need a break from Mommy." Shocked

One side of me feels like a shitty parent. Kudos to all the SAHMs that take care of toddlers day in and day out. I am so not worthy.

I can't imagine how tiring it would be to care for busy twins! I snap at my kids too when I am tired and frustrated, who doesn't?
