I once wrote a check to DH's cousin with the wrong last name! The cousin's mom is on my father-in-law's side of the family, but she married a Davis, making cousin's last name different from ours. The check was on my kitchen counter and Dh brought it to my attention, so I ripped it up and replaced it like nothing ever happened. If his cousin saw it, I hope he didn't take offense.
