Seamus had a birthday party to go to today for someone in his preschool class. I RSVP'd earlier in the week by email, bought a present, wrapped it up, ya da da. Terry just called from the party, asking me to find the invitation and read it to him, and I did, thinking that maybe we had the time wrong or something. Uh, no. I had RSVP'd saying that we'd be happy to attend Michael's party, went shopping for Michael's present, wrapped it up and put Michael's name on it. The party was for ~Matthew~. Luckily, some other kid's mom had a sharpie in her purse and helped Terry fix the tag, but poor Seam is so confused. Who knows what Matthew's parents think of me now.

| LOL, I'd be thinking this lady doesn't have any idea who the fuck my kid is, but hopefully her kid does! It happens. Seriously, one of Katie's friend's moms keeps calling me Liz. I've known her for years and she's called me by my baby girl's name and I'm not sure how to correct her at this point. |

LMBO!!! I've had the same dilemma with people going on calling me Michelle for so long that I'm embarassed to correct them.
Michael, Matthew, Melissa, Michelle, Pixie, Liz... what's the difference? |

I have been "Jennifer" since I was little. I used to feel embarrassed to correct people, but since adulthood, I just nip it right in the bud and just correct them immediately.
Prescott always gets called "Preston". Always. Like everyday. |

| I grew up in a town that was predominantly Puerto Rican and Dominican. I am neither. And the kids always called me Alice instead of Allison. I HATED that! (I now know that it was a language-barrier issue. Lots of them were learning English as a second languag) But my husband calls me Alice just to get on my nerves sometimes. |

OMG, I get called Kristen, Krystal (that kills me), but worst of all, I get to hear "Oh, just like the actress" every SINGLE time I tell a new person my whole name. Every. Fucking. Time. I used to be all "Well, actually her name is KIRstie" but now I just say "yeah, haha" like "you are the millionth asshole to say that to me." It's like Michael Bolton on "Office Space." |

Most people get my name right, although I get a lot of mispronunciations. People will look at my name and say 'Uh-ree-kuh.' Is Erika really all that tricky? It's just Eric with an 'a' at the end. I do answer to my sister's name without thinking, though (does anyone else do this?). People who don't know my family look at me really strangely when I respond to being called Gretchen.
Scout-- I once linked to something that you had written (off of your blog, maybe?) and saw your full name-- the first thing that I thought was that you were probably waaay sick of the 'like the actress' comments. |

| That is funny, Kristy--when I went to mail you the baby stuff ages ago, the guy at the post office looked at the name and said, "Oh, like the actress!" and I was just gonna run with it, so I said, "Yeah, I know a Jacquie Kennedy, too." And I do. But, then he had to ruin the fun and say, "Oh, this is KRISTY not KIRSTY!" and I said, "Yeah, but the Jacquie Kennedy is really a Jacquie Kennedy, but not the real Jacquie Kennedy, 'cause you know, she's dead." and then it was just stupid so we didn't say anything else to each other. |

I grew up on the east coast where we pronounced my name the way it's supposed to be, Tara, Ta-Ra. Just like the big house in Gone With The Wind. But now that I live on the west coast and they have an accent here, I've become Tear-a, like you're gonna "Tear a piece of paper". For 12 years now, I've been saying my name the same way I've said it for the previous 20 years, but I always have to repeat myself. So I've just given up and pronounced it their way, but if I say my full name with their accent, all they hear is "Tower of Carrots". Obviously, Carrots is NOT my last name, but it sounds close and they hear Carrots. I simply can't win!
Mammax3 - Alison is my sister's name too.
AnthroMomma, I don't answer to my sibling's names, but I DO answer to "Tapalison", a combination of our names my mom would say when she couldn't get the right name out. You knew she was mad when the dog's name got mentioned too and then it was "Tapalisonky". My son Maverick and my brother Patrick will answer to eachother's names though. My husband will actually answer to Bitch, but that's probably cause his name is Mitchell, but it's still rather funny sometimes, especially when we're fighting. LOL |

Snuffles-- I do that same thing with my kids. Only it goes a little more like "Seam-Ains-dammit"

Just for the record I am sure I never said "Just like the actress" Kristy.
Luckily Kelly is pretty hard to screw up. Although occasionally people just call me random names.
The birthday party sounds like something I would do, except it would be Michelle, not a Matthew and that would just make it suck all the worse!

My son's name is Finn. Apparently, pain medication makes me speak with a lisp, because his insurance company called me in the hospital to get his information after he was born, and his card showed up a week later with "Sinn Rowand" on it. I even spelled it for the representative. Grrr.
What kind of person would name their child Sinn? |

Every piece of correspondence I've ever gotten from the hospital where my oldest (Seamus) was born refers to him as 'Secunus.' At least sin is a real word. |
