I don't think AP parenting = hippy, smelly mothers anymore than I think traditional parenting = detached robotic selfish stepford wives.
I admit I have a hair across my ass about Dr. Sears. I think he's dangerous and completely reckless in his advice to new parents. It bothers me to the core that he espouses his beliefs to be truths and if you don't adhere to them you will damage your child.
You know what I think happened to Sears? I think he had 121423428 children with "martha" and did things the way most parents of his generation did. And I think it worked well until baby number X when all hell broke loose b/c he got a HIGH NEEDS COLIC BABY! Everyone knows what hell on earth that can be and that most things that "work" with other children will not for the HN baby. So I think they did what they had to do to survive. I think that the only things that worked were for them to wear that baby, sleep with that baby and nurse it throughout the night while cosleeping! Well I say good for them! GREAT! WHOOPIE DOO! But you know what? This does not mean that you invented (or reinvented) some new "right/better" way of parenting and now we all must follow suit if we want our children to be bonded to us and thrive!
His utter disregard and contempt for mainstream parents who chose bottles, cribs, strollers and other "devices" is what causes non APers to be so turned off and it is what turns on the mommy wars. Doesn't he see his rhetoric just instills feelings of guilt, shame and fear in new parents who don't fit within his parameters for perfect parenting? |

I'd just like to say that Kristy does not smell!
Oh, and that thread (the trainwreck spin-off of MDC) is some funny shit! LOL |

I probably smell like garlic, spinach, and sausage from making over 50 dozen ravioli this weekend.
I have actually never read any of the Sears books except to skim the discipline book for my API leader qualification process. It seemed ok to me, but it's got a different focus than the baby care books. |

| Prescott. How does that ad thing work? Do you get paid per click? |
Yes, let us know. If clicking on these ads gets the Imperfect Parent some funds, I can do that every once in a while. |
Actually, the best way to show your support is tell other people (family, friends, enemies...) about us! |

Oh, I have! I even printed out the "Secret Agent Mom" story and brought it to "Moms Night Out" with my MOMS Club. Everyone loved it! |
