You'd think that the airlines would have more important things to worry about than if someone was nursing discretely enough to suit them. Rolling Eyes Crying or Very sad Evil or Very Mad

I wonder if the child's age has anything to do with the reaction (not that it makes it right)? That was my first thought.

My second thought is who gives a flying hoot if that woman was BFing her kid on the plane?

You know, I breezed right by how old the kid was, I skimmed and simply assumed she was an infant. You raise a good point, as we all know there are a lot of folks who aren't down with EBF, even former BF themselves.

Maybe Barbara Walters was on the flight? We know she doesn't like to sit next to yucky breastfeeding mothers.

I can see if her hubby was dangling from her booby, but a baby!? Mind your own beeswax Delta! Very Happy

P.S. I too, think 22 months is a little old for BF (my youngest is 19 months, and has teeth like a rat!), but it's not that outrageous as to kick someone off a plane!

What the AP also failed to mention was that the Flight Attendant handing over the blanket was allegedly to have said:

"...You are offending me..."

Well, you don't become a waitress in the sky because you can cure cancer ya know.

Americans are sqeemish about breasts, that's all there is to it. It a deeply rooted cultural thing and there are still people out there that don't get it.

I cannot remember if I ever posted this before, but here goes:

Living in what appears to be a puritanical-society, I have said to people who find breasts in general as offensive that:

Jesus was breastfed, you know...

No kidding they would all shit a brick! Laughing

That's what gets me--it's always really about some ignorant individual. Companies need to protect themselves by setting clear policies so their moron employees don't get them screwed.

MamaX3, just in case you didn't know, the World Health Org. does recommend bf for at least 2 years. (My personal longest is 3 years. Very Happy )

Yeah, I know. But at 19 months, before I can even SMELL her, my daughter will go into her room, grab a diaper and throw it at me and say "Poop." Or she'll beat on the fridge door and say "milk". I can't imagine her opening my shirt and saying "Boob". (which, I kid you not, my friend BF'd til her daughter was 3 and the little girl did just that!) What would the Wizard of Delta say?

P.S. Fuck Delta! And Fuck Southwest, too. thefinger Charging double for fat people! They're all corporate money-whores! (sorry for the tirade.) cussing

So, if a child can ask for food, she shouldn't get it? That's where that trail of logic leads.
Another point to consider is that not everyone who flies on planes is American. This could have been someone from a country where bf until age 2 is improtant to the child's life expectancy. People need to respect the WHO code.

I think that because these things get the publicity and the people win the lawsuits, that the companies WILL start making their policy known to their employees. Bad publicity + payoffs in a suit = change in policy. Money is the language they understand!

I don't know, I look at Liz at 18 months and she's still a baby. I don't get it why people get all in a tizzy about little people breastfeeding. They're babies for a lot longer than we are willing to accept!
