Has anyone used this http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2401891&cp=2255986.2256245.2256271&pg=1&parentPage=family#prod_prodinfo
It's that co-sleeper thingy. We borrowed an old fashioned bassinet with Michael, but those friends have since moved away. I'm hoping nursing works out for me this time which would make this really convenient and even if I bottle feed it's still nice to have the baby close by at first for all those middle of the night feedings, don't cha think? I have a pack and play, but that will be used downstairs for napping, diaper changes, etc. I live in a townhouse so I need everything on every level |

I had the sleigh bed co-sleeper with Liz. http://www.onestepahead.com/product/85213/358755/117.html
It's smaller than the original co-sleeper, but bigger than the "mini" co-sleeper. My MIL bought it for us (we had to order it online, nowhere around here carried it) and paid (she paid) like $350 for it. But, then we sold it on ebay for local pick up when Liz grew out of it. We got just about that much (I think $300) and bought a crib with that money.
I LOVED it. I had a traditional bassinet with A&K, and this was just wonderful. I loved having her right there next to me. You know that the bed of the co-sleeper is not flush with the mattress, right? There are still edges (like what, about 6 inches?). So, you still have to pick the baby up, you can't just s-l-i-d-e him or her over to you. But, it's still more convenient than a bassinet.
Liz was in it until she was about 10 months old. She's giant-girl, so the average 2 year-old would probably still have fit in it. The original co-sleeper is bigger though, they're "sleep-n-play" size (and use the same sheets and the sleep-n-plays). |

| Oh, I guess it's a pack-n-play, not a sleep-n-play. I never had one. |

| I think it looks nice as long as you have the room for it! We use a regular old bassinet until I can't stand listening to every sniffle and grunt and then pack the kid off to their own room at 4 weeks or so! |

We put Michael in his own room at around 4 weeks too. DH is such a light sleeper and he would wake up at every sound. But I am thinking that I'll use something like this for the first month or so right beside the bed and then move it into the baby's room and hold off on buying a crib for awhile.
PP, thank you for letting me know about the lip on the co-sleeper. I love the idea of having the baby right there but would like to just slide him/her right over to me so I will shop around... |

| I used the co-sleeper because Graham was on a heart monitor and had to be close to me, plus I wanted him to feel secure, but honestly, after only a few weeks, I moved him to a crib and pushed that against my bed with the side down and that worked out even better than the co-sleeper because the co-sleeper has this 1/8" mat to sleep on and it was noisy. The crib pushed up to the bed worked for me except when I had to get out of bed, but then I just crawled to the end of the bed. I had to do that with the co-sleeper too though. JME. |

Jessica~ I hadn't thought of how I would get out of bed. I going to have a c-section too so maybe crawling to the end of the bed won't be too comfortable. I'll have to give this somemore thought.
Maybe I should just us a regular bassinet or crib and whenever the kid wakes up I can make DH get up and change the diaper if necessary and then hand the baby to me...at least until I'm starting to feel more healed from surgery. That sounds like a plan. |

| I bought a really cute Moses Basket off ebay for $50 and that's what I've been using with Genevieve. She's about to outgrow it now and she's 3 months. It's on a large, sturdy end table next to the bed that has shelves underneath, which is convenient for diapers, blankest, etc. My grandmother just happened to have this table and it's so perect because the top and the two shelves under it are three identical large square trays with a lip around the edge. Anyway, I have loved it because it's right by the bed but does not take up a lot of space along the length of the bed. It was so easy to take with us when we went to georgia this summer, too. She sleeps great in it because it's cozy. She really slept with us all night for the first 6 weeks or so. Once I noticed she was not really waking up to nurse during the night, I started putting her in the basket, and it has worked out great. And she did nap in there some in the early weeks. |

That was one of the other nice things about the sleigh bed co-sleeper--it was sturdy and wooden and I used it for leverage to get out of bed after my c/s. And, it was on wheels, so once I was sitting, I just kind of rolled it over and got out of bed. I never hooked up the do-hicky that goes under the mattress on our bed, it didn't seem necessary, |

This thing looks awesome, unfortunately I can't find it anywhere! They don't sell in on that website anymore and I also tried Amazon and Ebay. A friend is going to lend us an old-fashioned bassinet and I think I will just make do with that for a month or two and then move baby to a crib. |

| Just key in some combo of "co-sleeper sleigh bed" and you'll get hits. I had to order ours online, but we got free shipping. Then we sold it local pick up on ebay and got almost what we paid for it new. [/i] |

We used the traditional bassinet for both kids and it worked out great for us. I kept it right next to my side of the bed. It rocked so that was perfect (it also vibrated but I never used that). I kept diapers and wipes in the bottom and when they would stir, I run down, grab a bottle and come back up and wait for them to wake and want it. Then I would feed them, give a quick diaper change right there, swaddle, and put right back in the bassinet. I would keep the lights off and then would rock the bassinet with my hand or foot until they drifted off!
At about three months old, they were both moved into their own room, crib.
Don't know why I just wrote a book LOL! |

PP...how long do you think a baby could comfortably sleep in the sleigh bed cosleeper? I really like it and found someplace online where it's in stock with no shipping charges, but I would want to use it a loooong time and get my money's worth out of it.
I like that I could keep in next to me for a month or two and then just wheel it into baby's room to use as a crib for a few more months (I hope). I hate the idea of buying a whole other regular crib but Michael definitely won't be ready to get out of his crib yet in March. But if I could keep this baby in the cosleeper for as long as possible, then I could move Michael to a bed and baby to the regular crib...what do you think? and then sell it on Ebay and get back some of my investment |

Liz was in it until she was 10/11 months old. She was also very long, like 95th percentile for length, so I'd imagine you could get a year out of it. The thing is, the bottom doesn't lower, so there could be a safety issue there. I had her next to me for that 11 months, so if she woke up and tried to get out, I'd know.
But, I tell ya, since those things are hard to find, you WILL get most of your money back if you sell it on ebay. We had a bunch of bidders and there was a bidding war at the last minute and the price just leaped. We used that money to get Katie the loft bed AND Liz the crib. |

Thanks for the info Rita! You're the best.
I think this is something that could really work out well for us. |
