| My 7 year old was diagnosed with OCD last year. He is visiting a pediatric neurologist at the end of May. He has quite a few issues I'm sure they will be exploring (allergies, hearing issues, etc) aside from the OCD angle. What can I expect at the initial visit. I am suspect there will be CAT scans and such at some point but I'm unsure. I'd really love a heads up from anyone whose child has been there, done that. |

I havent had any experience with OCD and children. I would suggest calling the neurologist's office to get a general idea of what may happen at the first appointment. Maybe knowing ahead of time might make you and your son more comfortable?
I saw a young woman on The View talking about OCD last week and how she has had it for years. She said that behavior mod therapy and/or meds are the route most people take for help.
Good luck in your son's treatment! Let us know how it goes at the appt! |

I have mild OCD, and went through behavioral therapy starting at about age 8. I vaguely remember having a neurological assessment done before I started therapy, but I don't remember it being a very big deal-- it was a lot like an IQ test. That was almost twenty years ago, though, so I'm sure the science and methodology has changed by now.
Good luck! Behavioral therapy really helped me-- I felt a lot more 'normal,' and that really positively affected my self esteem.
