HB, thanks for sharing that info. It makes me feel better to know Aaron's issues aren't uncommon!
Jess, do you let him have any naked time at all? Aaron is bottomless a lot because that's how he remembers to go in the potty. JAT! |

No, we had a 1-2-3 goal after he started preschool which was to
1. Get him off the bottle (done)
2. Get him into a big boy bed (done)
3. Potty train (barely started)
He's just not ready yet. He's still more like a 2 year old in a lot of ways, ya know? But, I do know the value of nakie time. I did that with Holden. Graham would wig out if I did that. I can see it now, crying, "Pants. Pants. Pants. Pants". LOL. |

My son was circed and when he was 6 months or so, it started to close up a bit. Dr pulled the skin loose and no big deal.
I will tell you though, that none of my 3 nephews were circed at birth, and 2 ended up getting circumsisions when they were in grade school- which was an awful ewxperience for them both. Both just had chronic infections. I was inclined to circ my son anyway because that's what I am "used to" but that clinched it for me. |

OMG, that is SCARY!
I dunno, I defintely think there are pluses and minuses to both. Anybody who says otherwise is kidding themselves and not looking at it objectively and that's coming from a mom who had one circ'd and who has one intact. |

I am still firmly of the opinion that if you leave an intact foreskin alone and maintain proper hygiene once the foreskin is retractable you are not going to have issues.
There isn't a boy in my family that has been circed in this latest generation, on either side. That adds up to: 2 eleven year olds, 1 eight year old, 2 almost-five year olds and a 3 year old and not one issue of any kind in any of them. They have been taken care of properly and nature has handled the rest. <shrug>
The female anatomy is a lot more complex down there than a penis. If there was as much misinformation about taking care of young girls' areas -- say with douches and invasive cleaning -- there would be a whole lot of "issues" with those too. People just need to learn to just leave things alone. |

Oh, I don't agree with that at all and I think parents need to know that it's not a maintenance free decision to forgo circumcision. If I don't physically pull back Graham's foreskin every single day and clean it, it will get infected. It's black and white. Either I keep up with it, or he suffers the consequences.
Having said that, I don't regret leaving him intact, it's not a big deal to clean it, but I think it's remiss not to mention it at all. I also think there are some positives to circumcision (like HIV protection) that should not be down-played.
I think there are reasons to circumcise and reasons not to. Every family has to weigh those options and figure out what's most important to them. I also think that leaving a boy intact can be gift as well, but as I said before, circumcision is not a completely unnecessary procedure. |
