The One World Church sounds more like Scientology to me.
I can't agree that all religions really worship the same god. I think that's something Christians like to think in order to feel better. Wink

Lisa, I could have written your post, word for word! I swear, I feel the same way religiously. It's nice to know I'm not alone!

I do think that I'm going to stop taking communion. I have to take the kids to mass on occasion, because Alex is an alter server sometimes and Katie does stuff with scouts. But, to me there is a community aspect of communion (Jesus broke bread with his friends--it was a group thing), and I've never felt "in communion" with the greater Catholic church (something I've struggled with all along, and have talked with the priest about on more than one occasion), but now I feel really pushed out of the parish community, too. So, I think it would be hypocritical for me to take communion in that setting.

Then again, anything with the words, "One World [Anything]" and I am totally creeped out.

I can't comment on the scientology, I don't know squat about it.

I don't know of any Christians who believe we all (as in all religions - Buddhist, Muslim etc.) worship one God. That's kinda abstract thinking for Christianity, IME.

The communion issue is another aspect that is starting to bother me. When I converted to Episcopal, the issue of Transubstantiation was never brought up. I had partook 'the Body of Christ [bread], Blood of Christ [wine] strictly from a metaphorical point of view and instead celebrate it as participating in Christ's final Seder (Passover) meal. In recent years the talk of transubstantiation started to come to light and the mere thought of actually believing that the bread/wine becomes THE flesh/blood I could not accept. The Parishioners even got offended when during passover week I would refuse the bread altogether (it was leavened, and I still practice some Jewish rites/rules on a cultural basis, nothing more).

I hope I did not offend anyone.

Hey pp...just wanted to offer support! Just keep the bible as your source for making decisions and pray about it and you wont go wrong.

My husband has gone through what you're going through now and ulitmately decided on leaving the catholic church... He's been happy. Still feels a twinge of guilt sometimes (why guilt?? i don't know) but I do know that he's good and at peace with his decision.

We still as a family have alot of his habits...he still does the sign of the cross after each prayer, we say the dinner prayer each night (bless us, oh lord for these thy gifts....) etc... but we attend a presbyterian church now. But even that is tough for ME and I often don't go. I just get much more out of studying the bible than i do by going to church. (hey, isn't that protestants started? )

I hope you find what works for you soon...just remember its your relationship with christ that matters, not what you label yourself or what other PEOPLE have to say about it!

OK, 10 moms, 5 meals each, that's 50 meals for a new mom.

Can I just say HOLY CRAP, that would feed my family for months!!! Wow.

I suppose in a nutshell of my off-the-wall thinking is that God or whatever Divine entity is out there, expresses it's presence in however he/she/it sees fit. Be they an organized religion or an individual free-thinker who simply seeks basic truths in humankind.

Pardon my getting all philisophical. BTW, thanks PP for getting us into a such a lively talk!

Really? I have heard that a lot as an answer when questioning Christians (often teenagers or college-aged kids) question the idea that all non-Christians are wrong and/or going to hell. It sort of smoothes over the problem to say "Well, aren't we all really worshipping the same God, and just calling him different names?" Whereas I can barely see a resemblance between the god of the OT and that of the new, lol.

Speaking of which, I am going to my first book club meeting this friday night, and the book is The Red Tent. The club is from a local mom's board and I've never met more than *maybe* on of the women IRL. Should be interesting, lol. I tried to get Kenna to cheat and let me just tell her about the book so I will know someone there. Laughing

The red tent was a very interesting book - a look at what life was like for women during Biblical times.

PP, if it is any consolation, I was on bedrest and laying around like Jabba The Hutt for months and no one ever called me to see how I was doing. No 'Ziti Patrol' for me either. The The Maker for my Gourmet In-Laws!

No kidding! They had a list of dates and you signed your name to the date. It spanned a couple of months.

Lisa, actually, we did have one very nice person bring us a great meal the day that we brought Liz home. It was wonderful. Then another lady brought Katie home from kindergarten (she was out at 11) several times, which was also very nice. But, they weren't really church-related relationships, just friends.

Oh, and had I known YOU and found out you were on bedrest, I would have done something to help!

I have been wanting to join a church or temple but I refuse to bake or have anything to do with baked goods. I think that rules out most organizations for me.

I would have felt a bit resentful too PP if I had given heart and soul for an organization but no one understood when it was my time to need help. No one likes to ask for help, but it sounds like you should have been able to expect a little from your church.

But I agree with most of the posts. Your problem is not with religion, it is with organization structure and silly things people do in groups. Don't you love sociology?

I think I would have said something really nasty to the one girl who said something about everyone being busy. Something like, "Well ain't that Christian of ya to be so understanding?"

I was interested in Bahai about 10 years ago . . .

Sorry to be so scattered in this post- a lot to catch up on!

No, it's MOMS of the midsouth or something like that. It's a good board, no drama and not so Bartlett and scrapbook as MMM. Their registration is closed right now, but the next time it's open you should join. Kenna brought me over there just about a month and a half ago. We're meeting for a picnic and to feed the ducks over by me during spring break and you are welcome to come with the kids. I'm not sure what day yet, but I will definitely let you know.
