Here's a family favorite that a thought you all might enjoy:

Mincemeat Pie:
1/4 to 1/2 lb of chopped meat (venison is trad. but lean ground beef is ok too.) salted and peppered roll into a ball and boil it until it is cooked on the inside.
4 apples peeled and chopped
2 pears peeled and chopped
1/4 cup raisuns
1/4 chopped dates
1/4 chopped walnunts
2 Tb spoons apricot jam
1 cup molasses
cinnamon, clove, mace, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, to your own taste (apprx. 1/2 to 1 teaspoon each and a Tbl spoon on the mace and cloves), I go heavy on the spices.
When the meat has cooled mix it all together in a big bowl and leave it sealed in the frige for a few days, on pie day take it out and put it in a pie pan with a top and bottom crust, slit the top crust, bake at 400 for 15 min. and 350 for an addition 40 min.
Its very old fashioned and it tastes better than it sounds. I had to learn to make this because when we were first dating my dh told me Mincemeat was his favorite pie. It was hard to find a reciepe , but over the years I pretty much invented one all of my own . Let me know if anyone is brave enough to try it Laughing .

Thanksgiving a.m.
Well, I was just joking with dh about how I can watch the parade this morning for the first time in years. He is just off to work. I work tonight - so my family is having Thanksgiving on Sat. I'm going to make my dh his pumpkin pie and I'm going to put a pot rost in the crockpot in a little while but other than that no crazy day in the kitchen for me today.
The only other time in the last 13 years I wasn't stuck in the kitchen all day was 5 years ago when I spent the day in labor with my ds. Surprised
I'll do some cooking Sat. but not too much. Since we divide up the dishes for the dinner no one has to do everything. Hope everyone has agreat day!!!

OMG, I didn't think mincemeat had actual meat in it. That sounds like the Friends episode where Rachel was reading two separate recipes and put beef in the trifle. Laughing Sick

When my middle son was in pre-school his teacher was English and she ask that one of the parents buy a couple of jars of mince so the kids could make tarts at Christmas (an English tradition). I told her I could bring her two jars of homemade mincemeat if she wanted to do that, and she said okay. They ended up using just one jar at school, and when I went to pick up my son, she ask me if she could keep the other jar to take home because it reminded her of real English Christmas Pie. That made me feel pretty good that she wanted to keep it queen . So I guess its pretty good if you like that sort of thing, but then again the English are not known for good taste, when it comes to food Embarassed .
