I didn't say you said that, it is what I thought your implication was. If I was wrong, I apologize. In my saying, 'countries like that', and you refuting that, I wasn't aware that you were *only* talking about fertility rates since you qualified it with remarks about their sophistication. |
Apology accepted. Yes, I did say that Venezuela is a sophisticated South American country, and I stand by that. Of course that is my opinion and can not be proven. I would like to add, sophistication not withstanding, that Venezuela does have the best economy in all of Latin America, it can not compare to the USA however. |

NYC isn't a country, but I get what you're saying, however, you don't have to be Ethopia to be a "third world country", there has to be some reason they're on the list...I mean, I don't know...I didn't make up the list!!
The list has got to be fucked up. It's such a built up country, you don't see poverty, homelessness and hungry children there the way you see it in our own country. N Korea, yes I can understand why they would be on the list. |

Well, I'll take your word for it. You obviously know more about it than I do. I was just going off that list. |

Exactly, see the last post on page 2 for a quote from the same website. The is no official definition for 1st , 2nd, 3rd world countries.
Further more they are using geopolitical models from the cold war era. incredibly N. Korea appears on both the lists for 2nd and 3rd world countries while S. Korea is only on the list for the 3rd world. I have had many business associates from S. Korea (although I have never been there myself) and am in complete agreement with you on the state of S. Korea today. Believe it or not my Dad was in S. Korea in early 1950's (I understand a lot has changed since then!)and he fell in love with the country then too. |

| What it boils down to is that you would never see our president, or just about any man in any position of power or authority, comfortably chatting with a woman while she was openly nursing her baby. Even discreetly nursing would be a stretch. And personally, I just think that's silly. |
Because we *are* a different culture. I'm not trying to justify it, I'm just stating a fact. Many things would have to change for that situation to happen over here as an everyday thing. It's rather deep why these cultural differences are present. America would have to change it's whole way of thinking about breasts, that's what it boils down to. |
Yep, I agree. That was really my point in posting the picture. Kind of like saying "This is what a breastfeeding-friendly culture looks like to me, and we're not it." |

The fact of the matter is, I bet, that MOST of you women here, even those of you who bf toddlers, would be uncomfortable bfing in the presence of the President of the United States.
If I was eating a sandwich, I'd put it down to meet the President (okay, maybe not this one..but, you know, in general )
I think THAT's the big difference. It's our set of learned behaviors, or manners, that would prevent this. We don't want to make other people uncomfortable. Even if we were comfortable with the behavior. |

I can't imagine that our current President would ever meet with me, but if he did you can bet I would be completely comfortable nursing in front of him. How comfortable he (GWB) would be, I can't be bothered with.

I certainly don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, but the comfort of my child is the most important to me. Yes, the physical comfort of my child is more important (to me) than the psychological comfort of the President of the United States. |

| I can honsetly say I would not feel uncomfortable bfing in front of any president or world leader. I think bfing is beautiful, natural and wonderful. I bfeed in front of my father and father in law. If I can bfeed in front of these two men I can bfeed in front of anyone. |

Actually if it was *GWB* then I'd make it a point to bf'd in front of him just to see him stammer and say something really dumb. |
