Have any of you tried this? Can you believe it...Avery is almost FOUR and is still not potty trained, although when he wants to, he can do pretty well.
I want to start Jaime and hopefully finish Avery's training over Christmas break since I will be home for two weeks.
If not, what did you do to potty train? How do I initially get Jaime to understand what I want her to do (she will sit on the potty but never goes). |

Well, here is what we did. We started off sitting Jack on the potty every night before bedtime when he was about 2 and 1/2. Sometimes he would pee and sometimes not. It helped at first for one of us to sit on the regular toilet (or stand, in dh's case) and pee while he watched so he got the idea.
When he turned 3 in May I warned him that diapers were going away as soon as school was out for me for the summer. We went to Walmart and picked out a bunch of "prizes" for his prize box. The day school was over, I told him there were no more diapers during the day. He asked for his diapes back for the first day or two but I didnt give in!
Made a nice sticker chart for the bathroom and put a sticker on it every time he sat on the potty, even if nothing happened. As soon as he filled the chart up he got a prize. I made it really easy for him to fill up the chart, not too many boxes. Once he filled up the first chart I made up another chart with a few more boxes on it so it took a little more time. He got one sticker for peeing or trying and two for pooping.
Oh, the big thing was that we didnt leave the house for like, the first 3 days. And I brought him to the bathroom every 20-30 minutes or so. It seemed like so much, but if I didnt bring him he didn't get that he had to tell me when he had to pee. So we only had a handful of accidents and he was trained in about a week. He is still in diapers at night and naptime though.
Good luck!! |

| I don't have any advice on how to do it. Each child is so different. I just wanted to share with you that when Atticus was potty training I found the days when I stressed over it were hard days and the days I relaxed were so much easier on both of us. He was so much more relaxed if I was. |
