The Minivan. Grocery Getter or Sex Machine?

I want a minivan.

By Liz Weslander

I just bought my first minvan. I am 65 and the main reason is the space. We are "snow birds" who flee Rhode Island for several months in Florida. My wife needs her "stuff" to be happy over the long winter away. You would be surprised at how many senior citizens drive these things. We are happy to load up grandkids and provide alone time for their parents.
In the 70's I drove a sharp Country Squire station wagon with a 400ci engine with tuned dual exhaust. Wish I had that now. Good luck.

Good for you! I've never really had so detailed a conversation as to why so many people groan when I suggest a friend get a minivan as his or her family expands. I'm sure a big part of it is "image."

On the other hand, I've never met a minivan owner who's sorry about it, nor have I met one who would choose an SUV or something else when replacing a current minivan.

We have a mini-van...and love it when we can go on a date while leaving the kids with the grands. It's a mobile hotel room for getting it on after a movie or some adult time before needing to go pick kids up again.

We've even made love in it while waiting for a tire to inflate from the onboard air compressor when we had a flat, once :-)

Sexy looking? maybe not...but tinted windows, adjustable seats and lots of room make it the perfect place to try all those positions you've been thinking of while parked in a quiet spot :-)

Love this. In fact, I quoted you in my latest blog entry, One Woman's Journey from Cool Chick to Minivan Mama: It's Hard to be Cool in a Minivan, www.iusedtobecool.com/blog

Minivans are sexy, minivans are sexy, say it like a mantra people.....

Amen!

Minivans are the pinnacle of automotive progress yet they suffer ribbing by popular culture. That's an indictment of the culture, not this amazing vehicle. A minivan is the most complete automobile ever produced. It deserves praise, not derision.
