As I sat here reading this, beads of sweat formed on my forehead and trickled down my cheek. My daughter is three and a half, and while I knew this sort of stuff is in my future (last night after a visit to Toys R Us she informed me that as soon as she was "an older girl" she wanted Hannah Montana stuff - she had pointed HM stuff out earlier and I told her it was for older kids) I didn't realize how close it is.

I worry about the impact this stuff (all this premature sexualization) will have on my kid, especially when, as you mentioned, combined with the natural development of young girls' social groups.

Wow man. I feel like I'm among peers! I love the way you guys write around here! So terrific! I've been looking for a site like this one for so long I gave up hope! I even started blogging because I felt like not enough Dad's out there blog about their kids.

SO GLAD I found this site. Srsly. It's like... Parenting, by humans like me.

Thank you!

Just so you know, there is some research that shows that "mean girl" stuff starts at about age 3. Consider yourself lucky if you are just seeing it now.

It's like I'm looking into the future...

I have three daughters, ages 3.5 and twins at 20 months. Right now I can get them to laugh with a quirky face and I'm usually the one kicking off the dance party to some weird hipster music or a dancehall song from King Tubby. We have fun - that's what we do.

After reading your article I realize that my time might be pretty short in the fun/goofy dad role. I'm going to maximize the next three years of goofiness=laughter(not eyerolls) thanks to this article.

Thanks for posting it!
