Guh. I was lucky, I only had to work a week before summer vacation started. I walked into work with one of the dads and he was expecting to find me crying - nah, I said, baby is with the husband ... and I'm spending all my energy disregarding that my MIL is there too.2. Dana

Dawn, what luck! Your MIL was there to help with the baby? Or did your husband call her like mine did because he didn't think I could do it alone? ;) I remember that push/pull feeling of, "I can do this by myself" but yet I was mad that no one was helping me! Such a contradiction.3. Elizabeth

Great post, Dana. I still remember Ryan's first day of daycare when he was 13 weeks old, how my husband took him in because it was on his way to work, and I sat at my vanity table blowdrying my hair and sobbing. I wrote a letter to put in his diaper bag detailing exactly how they would know when he was ready for a nap, because I was sure they wouldn't be able to figure it out!I think you're doing a great job balancing your job and your family. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to separate working you from Mommy you, as long as your employer understands and is supportive. Which I assume yours is!

Elizabeth, your letter sounds reasonable to me! I had a little memo notebook that I wrote "instructions" in. That's another story all together! I was a bit crazy in those days. Heck, I still am.5. leslie

This was a great article to read. My daughter is 9 1/2 months old, I am going to be going back to work full time and I feel this TREMENDOUS sadness with leaving her with childcare. This article spoke to me and made me laugh. Thanks6. Dana

Leslie, I'm glad that I was able to make you laugh! That's important, especially when you have to go back to work. I hope the transition goes well!
