I struggle with this as well. I am really digging the "three bites and cold cereal rule." That's very clever. I may have to institute it in my house. Right now, we have the "one bite and go hungry rule." It's not working out so well.
It saves me a lot of grief. With seven children, I never feel guilty about someone not liking the meal because there is always cold cereal.

Oh, I'm so glad other people have to deal with this, too! My son was a total gourmet baby, and now he turns up his nose at all sorts of things he used to love (he's 4). He's also experimenting with vegetarianism, which makes his picky eating even harder to deal with. But he does eat Brie. ;)

this scares me. i grew up in a household where my mother cooked (horribly) 5-6 days a week and my father graced us with a good meal when he had the time. the rule at home was "THIS is dinner. Eat it or leave it."
I thought our little guy (who is 2) was doing so much better because he at least tries everything, and does a pretty good job eating a balanced diet. Now I fear the day when he revolts and does the "this tastes like yuck!" routine.
Yikes.
MOMINATRIX RADIO This live call in show takes a frank look at sexuality from a parent perspective.
"Try as hard as we may for perfection, the net result of our labors is an amazing variety of imperfectness. We are surprised at our own versatility in being able to fail in so many different ways." -- Samuel McChord Crothers
